TLC offers a structured preschool program that help children feel confident and safe. The consistent routine offers them the comfort of knowing what to expect. However, they are also exposed to a wide variety of activities and allowed plenty of personal choices throughout their day.
Each week, the children concentrate on a certain educational theme. They will do art projects, play games, read books, sing songs, and be involved in activities that focus on the weekly theme. Each day at TLC is truly a chance to strengthen all areas of a child’s development, so a wide variety of activities are offered.
Our Daily Schedule
7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Arrival/Children’s Free Choice time. Three areas are open and the children can choose from a large motor/physical activity, a dramatic play/pretend activity, or small group games/art projects. These activities are rotated daily so that the same choice is never offered twice in one week, and often not more than once a month. Water play is also available every week during this time!
9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Snack/Small Group time. The children go back with their lead teacher for a snack in their classroom. Table etiquette is emphasized, as is a relaxed and comfortable eating atmosphere! After our healthy morning snack, the children participate in teacher-led activities, and often are allowed to choose which one they want to participate in. Once again, activities are rotated so they are not doing the same things over and over.
10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Large Group/Circle time. The children all gather together at our circle time rug, where they sing songs and read stories. The songs, finger plays, and books range from classic children’s songs to ones specifically related to our theme of the week. The children are often up and dancing during the sing-along time, and it is a fun time for everyone!
10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Project time. The teachers lead a learning activity related to the theme of the week. A craft, activity, or game, project time is a great opportunity for learning, fun, and discussion! Ask your child what they did for project today!
11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Large Motor/Outdoor time. This is the best time to GET MOVING! We know that preschool children have boundless enthusiasm and energy. We love to spend a lot of this time outdoors, either on our playground or riding toys. We also have other outdoor activities such as bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and teachers who are familiar with a variety of playground games! When weather doesn’t permit, we have a climber, balance beams, tumbling mats and plenty of safe room to get exercise indoors. This time of day is a great time to be flexible and experience a wide variety of activities that TLC has to offer.
12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Lunch/Story time. From 12:00 to 12:30, our children sit down to a leisurely lunch prepared on site. Lunch typically consists of a main course and vegetable, and fruit for dessert. Check out our menu on the information board when you first walk in! You will see we provide a delicious variety. Lunch, like snack time, is a pleasant experience where conversation about the morning is encouraged and manners emphasized. After lunch, children wind down from a busy morning with quiet stories read by their teachers, or quiet independent reading for the older children.
12:45 to 2:45 p.m.
Nap time. Children nap on cots provided by TLC. They provide their own small sheet and blanket, and perhaps a comfort/security item from home. The lights are out and quiet music is played during this time.
The afternoon schedule is a repeat of our morning lineup. Snack, Circle Time, Project, and Activities until the children are picked up by 6:00 p.m.!
